first fishing of the season

We had really nice weather last week.  So nice, in fact, that Kaden asked if it was time to go fishing yet.  He was beyond excited when Kyle told him they could go after school on Friday.  Bosten got to go too, and they had the best time ever, although didn't catch anything.

They fished, went for a walk, saw a deer, threw sticks and rocks in the water, made a trap, and had the best time ever.
I'm so glad they love being together.

invites

Our adoption agency puts on a dinner each spring for birth mothers (ones who have placed, ones who are considering placing, and ones in the middle of the process).  Its a big deal, although I wasn't aware of it until they asked me to be on the planning committee a few months ago.

My assignment was invitations, and I finished them this week.  I was originally told I needed approximately 100, but the final count was 180.

The colors for the dinner this year are purple and orange, and part of the theme is "The Butterfly Effect".

This is what I came up with, and how it came together.

I had my sister cut butterflies out on her cricut:

I designed the invitation, and then had the agency print/cut for me:

 I cut and folded cardstock:

I cut and ripped strips of patterned paper:

This is what it looks like when you open it to read:

Here's the official invitation:

I'm happy with how they turned out, and hope that everyone likes them!

ready for the madness

I had decided that I wasn't going to do a NCAA tournament bracket on the wall this year.
When I told Kaden, he was really bummed and wanted to do it.

So, today Bosten and I got started before Kaden got home from school.

Last year I measured everything exactly. This year I just eyeballed it.  I should have measured, it took a lot longer to make it all line up than it would have to measure.

Don't worry, Kaden had a chance to get in on the action.

Here it is getting close.  I  typed out the name of the school, rather than putting a picture of the mascot.

Did you notice that I have BYU winning their game tomorrow night?  No sense giving poor Iona even a chance...however, not sure how much farther the Cougars will get.

Here it is!

The boys thought it was really fun to do it, and even have filled out brackets.  Bosten has Temple vs. BYU in the finals.  Silly boys.

Let the madness begin!

the latest

I totally stink at taking pictures lately since I'm not taking a picture a day.  But, here's what's been going on around here, in case you were dying to know:

-Our DVR receiver died last week.  They came and replaced it for no charge, but we lost hours and hours of the kids favorite shows.  Major bummer.

-We got some snow last week and had a great time sledding with the cousins at my parents house.

-Kaden is consistently getting 3's at school (that's a huge deal).

-Last week was a hard week for me.  For some reason, my infertility slapped me in the face pretty hard.

-I'm doing the invitations for a birth mother dinner that our agency hosts every year.  They are really cute, and told me I'd need approx. 100.  I made 120 just to be safe, and then was informed I needed 180.  Totally frustrated.

-The battery in the van died.  We went out to take Kaden to school, and it was completely dead.  Thankfully,  my dad came up to help take care of it when Kyle was at work.  What a good Papa we have.

-If you ask Bosten what his name is, he'll tell you "Bosten Boodle Bear" every time.  So cute.

-We celebrated my birthday a day early and went to Olive Garden on Friday night with my parents.  It was really good and the kids were really great .

3.  What is your favorite meal?
4.  Which food do you dislike the most?
5.  What do you think is the healthiest thing in your pantry right now?

2.  I'm pretty much a fan of anything chocolate.

3.  I love good Mexican food.  I'm still looking for a really good spot in Utah.  We've found a few good ones, but nothing fantastic.  If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

4.  Not a huge fan of salmon, pesto, or cooked carrots.

5.  Dried bananas that I made in the food dryer recently.
