fast fact friday #17

Questions:

1.  What's your first and middle name?
2.  How did your parents choose your name?
3.  If you'd been the opposite sex, what would your name have been?
4.  How did you decide your kids' names?
5.  Do you know other people that have the same names as your kids?

Answers:

1.  Shelby Paige

2.  My mom really liked Paige for a first name, but my dad didn't.  Shelby was the last name of someone on a movie that they'd watched.

3.  Joe

4.  I don't know how we came up with Kaden.  It was something we both could agree on, so that was a huge factor.  His middle name is Lee, after my dad.
We chose 3 names we liked for Bosten, and then let his birth mom have a vote.  She and her siblings all had "B" names, so it was a nice connection to her and her family.  His middle name is Kyle.

5.  We lived in Oregon when we brought Kaden home.  We knew one Caden, but that was it.  However, here in Utah there are a ton of Kaden's.  We knew of one of other Bosten when he was born, but since then know of several.

it's baseball season

Kaden has been so excited for baseball to start...for weeks.  He was really hoping for green jerseys, and the lucky duck got his wish.  Even better, they decided to be the green army rangers.  Couldn't get more perfect than that.

He's playing coach pitch this year, and he did really well.  We're excited to watch him play.
Go green army rangers!

My sister decided to do a summer session for preschool.  Bosten is "going to school", I'm helping, and Kaden participates if he's interested.

She's doing tons of projects.  The day I took pictures was the day about rainbows.

arizona

It was hot in Arizona.  People told us we were lucky the we hadn't been there a couple of weeks earlier, because it had been 114 degrees.  Kill me.

We spent a lot of time in the hotel pool.  It was tons of fun, because all of the boys' cousins were there too.

Saturday night was the luau.  I didn't get any pictures with the birthday girl.  Lame.  I tried a couple of times, but it didn't happen.  Anyway, there was food, music, entertainment...the works.

It was a fun (hot) party.

hoover dam

We decided to check out Hoover Dam on the way to Mesa.  I've never been, but Kyle remembers going once when he was a kid.

We got out and walked around, but both of the boys were complaining it was too hot (its a good thing we didn't go in the afternoon!).  So, it was short and sweet.  Kaden wasn't too interested in pictures or getting close to the edge, but thought it was fun.  Bosten was pretty much done as soon as we started.

It was pretty cool, and we're glad we took the time to stop.

you can help

There are things you can do to help us in our efforts to add another member to our family
(and we are so appreciative of any/all efforts in our behalf!):

-Grab our button, and add it to your blog.
Its really easy to do.  See that picture on the sidebar of our family with "we're hoping to adopt again" on it?  There's a white box under it with a bunch of gibberish in it.  Copy it.  Add a gadget on your layout page.  Choose HTML/Java Script.  Paste.  Save.
See, I told you it was easy.

-Write something on your blog about adoption.
It could be anything....Your thoughts/feelings about adoption, how you know about a family that's hoping to adopt, etc.  I'd be happy to be a guest on your blog and write something for you too (as in we're hoping to adopt or some of my thoughts/feelings about adoption).

-Update your status on Facebook/Twitter about something adoption related and/or share our adoption blog link (http://kyleandshelby.blogspot.com):
-"My friends are hoping to adopt"
-"Know someone facing an unplanned pregnancy?  I happen to know a family that's hoping to adopt!"
-"Adoption is about love..."
"I know of a family that's hoping to adopt"
etc.

-Pass out some of our pass along cards.
I would love to send you some of our cards.  Leave me a comment or email me at hope2adoptbaby@yahoo.com and I will hook you up.

Some great places to leave them:
-doctor's offices
-bishops/pastors/priests
-family members
-hair dresser
-seminary teachers
-bulletin boards
-nurses
-with the bill when you go out to dinner
-really anywhere

-Keep our family in your prayers.

We are so appreciative of anything you might say or do that will help us adopt another baby!

road trip

Last Thursday, we started out on our road trip to Mesa, Arizona.  This trip has been in the works for a year, as we were heading down to celebrate at my aunt's 60th birthday bash.

The boys were really excited to get started, and jumped right in the van.

Everyone did pretty well, and we were all happy to get to Las Vegas, where we'd planned to spend the night/play in the pools.  However, it didn't go as planned.  The hotel's computer system had crashed and they were trying to check people in/out, check room availability, activate key cards, etc. all by hand.  It literally took us 2 hours to check in...Kyle standing in line, and the rest of us hanging out in the lobby.

Once we finally got settled, we realized that we were all hot and tired.  We got dinner at the hotel, and spent the rest of the evening in the pools.

The next morning, we walked part of the strip.

It was too early to go in the shops, but it was still fun to check everything out.  We decided to get on the road (instead of waiting for everything to open at 9am), and headed to Hoover Dam...
