this week

Nothing super exciting has been going on around here....just a normal week for the most part.

The boys and I did a baking day one day. We cooked up a bunch of hamburger, made chocolate chip banana bread, and breakfast burritos for the freezer.


Bosten thinks he's pretty funny to try and get out of his clothes. I'm not sure why its so funny (or why it always seems to be at his high chair). He's always pretty proud of himself and then tells me that he's stuck.


We've had a band all week. The boys get out the keyboard, guitar, and microphone and sing at the top of their lungs. We've had lots of Phineas and Ferb songs, the Pirates of the Carribean song, the ABC's, and anything else that they can think of. I get to introduce the band to all of their screaming fans.


For FHE this week, we decided to make our own miniature golf course.
Kaden made the numbers for each hole, and figured out what we would do for each hole.

The first hole was it had to say on the blanket and go into the alligator's mouth:


#2 was the ball had to go on the train track, knock the Army guys over, and go into the hole....um, pumpkin bucket.


#3 was the ball had to roll down the car ramp and go straight into the cup.


#4 was the ball had to go through the books, through the characters mouths and roll into the hole.

The boys thought it was great, and it was fun to watch Kaden put it all together.

Kaden and his cousin, Brody, decided to do science experiments. They looked at plastic bugs under the magnifying glass, measured them, stuck them in water, and looked at them on slides.
Pretty cool.


Finally, we tagged along with Lindsey's preschool class to the pumpkin patch.
We sat on tractors, went through a corn maze, checked out the pumpkins, and took a tractor ride.


All in all, it was a pretty good week!

Our favorite summer hang out spot, Cherry Hill, turns into Scary Hill during the fall. We've been waiting for a good time to go, and recently it was time!

First, we hit the mini-golf course.

Next, we took a tractor/hay ride around the park.


We walked through the hay maze and then got a treat. It was fun, and not even too scary!

As already mentioned, last week we took a few days and went to visit Grandma in Colorado. It was a quick trip, but we still got to do some fun things:

Hang out with Grandma!


Make a new army blanket!


Make popcorn with Grandma's fun popper!


Do the dishes (when no one was watching him climb up there)!


Visit Grandpa and Lynn!


Ride in (and drive) Grandpa's golf cart!


Swim at the rec. center!


Play at the park!


Feed the ducks!


Shred papers for Grandma!

unexpected detour

This past week we went to Colorado to visit Grandma. (I will blog about it later)

Kaden had a cold while we were there, and felt pretty lousy one night. Bosten got it too.

Tuesday night, I was up pretty much all night with Bosten. He sounded terrible, was wheezing and crying in his attempts to sleep, and was all around miserable. We were heading home on Wednesday, so once we got on the road I called the doctor to make an appointment for Bosten (as we were driving right by the office on our way home).

A quick visit turned into 2 hours as he was having a hard time breathing and his oxygen saturation levels were lower than they should be. They sent us down the hall to the new Children's Unit at Riverton Hospital (which had opened the day before).

They had a doctors, nurses, and a respiratory therapist look at him. He had chest x-rays. They decided to admit him to the hospital and started him on oxygen. He later had an IV since he wasn't eating or drinking anything and needed fluids. Needless to say, it was a long 24 hours!

They think he could have issues with asthma. Its too soon to tell, but with his peanut allergy and issues with eczema, there's a good chance. He responded well to the medications they gave him, and his oxygen levels came back up.

He was a real trooper! He didn't cry at all, and would tell everyone "thank you" or "you're welcome" after they'd check him out. He even told the doctor that he needed a haircut (it was SO hilarious!)

I just have to say how much I love open adoption. Even though I didn't know the answers at the time about his family history, I knew I could get it (and I did). Turns out that there is asthma in his birth family's history, and I'm so thankful that I was able to get that information!

He was a different kid on Thursday morning. He was up and running around the room (and driving the little car!). He's still on medicine regularly, and he's REALLY grumpy. But, I'll take that over difficulty breathing any day!

Kaden was SO worried about Bosten and was thrilled to get to go to the hospital to visit! They had an XBOX 360 in the room, so he was happy to sit and play games while we were waiting to get released.
